The plasticisers are mostly used in processing PVC resins, we can call also them softeners, those chemicals are finding intensive application with polyamides, polyesters, polystyren, acrylic resins and poly carbonate resins.

The plasticisers are dividing between themse Ifs in sub classes. Mainly phtalates, phosphates, polyesters, epoxy esters and citrates are the most encountered, but we can say that the phalate consumption is greater than the consumption of the sum of the remainders.

There are several thesis as the plasticing mecanism effectivity. By generalising and summing all the thesis we can say that plasticisers behaving as lubricants are permitting resin macromolecules to slip one over the other, by solvating the resin they break the connection point of the polymer chain and thus are softening the body of the resin, and finally by penetrating between macro molecules they increase the volume and thus they confer flexibility to the resin.

It is imperative that a plasticiser must be absolutely compatible with the resin, other important factors being: Volatility, density, viscosity and processability. Our company is specialised in phtalate type plasticisers manufacture, those plasticisers are absolutely compatible with PVC resins. To produce phtalate esters phtalic anhydride is reacted with various alcohols, as the molecilar weight of the alcohol increases the volatility of the plasticiser decreases.

An important factor of the PVC resins is that they are fire retardants, to improve fire resistance they are processed with phosphate or halogenated phosphate type plasticisers. Epoxy plasticers also have a broad application field and while plasticising the PVC resin they act also partially as heat and light stabilisers, and mostly they are qualified as non toxic products when in contact with food packaging.
